Luxury Scented Candle Set
Three winter scents — pine, vanilla & cinnamon. The gift that never misses.
Add your group's names, tap draw, and everyone is secretly assigned someone to buy for — shuffled fairly, so nobody ever draws themselves.
Secret Santa is simple: everyone in the group secretly buys a gift for one assigned person, within an agreed budget. The hard part is the draw itself — hats and folded paper leak, redraws happen, someone always pulls their own name. This generator shuffles until no one is matched with themselves, every time.
Share the copied list with your group organiser only, or message each person their match privately so the surprise survives until gift day.
A Secret Santa lives or dies on trust in the draw, so run it like it matters. Collect names once, in one place — the organiser's list here — and check spellings with the group before drawing, because the draw cannot fix a missing person afterwards. Set the budget before the draw, not after: the number in the generator appears on the copied list, so nobody learns their target while quietly hoping the budget goes up. Agree the exclusions in advance if couples or housemates should not draw each other; if your group needs that rule, re-draw until the pairing works and say honestly that you did — fairness people can see beats secrecy they have to take on faith.
Then send matches privately. The copied draw list is for the organiser's records; each participant should receive only their own pairing, by message, so the surprise survives until the exchange.
Everyone eventually draws the colleague they know only as "forgets to mute on calls". The rescue ladder: something for their desk that is genuinely pleasant (a good plant, a quality notebook), something edible and widely loved (chocolates, specialty coffee), or something seasonal and safe (a candle, a Christmas ornament with the year on it). Avoid scented toiletries for near-strangers, avoid clothing entirely, and remember the goal: a small, warm signal that a person was thought about. That is achievable for literally anyone — including the mute-button colleague, who may turn out to be delightful.
Veteran groups keep the draw and change the game around it. Themed years — homemade only, charity-shop only, under-$10 only — refresh a draw that has gone stale, because constraint is comedy's best friend. The guessing ceremony can grow teeth: each recipient gets three guesses, and a wrong guess costs a forfeit chosen by the group. Reverse Santa flips the flow — everyone buys for the organiser's chosen charity instead, and the draw decides who presents it. And the two-year rule stops repeat pairings from fossilising: keep last year's list, and if the generator repeats a pairing, re-draw just that name. The generator above stays the honest engine underneath all of it: names in, fair draw out, and the organiser's hands visibly clean.
Draw done, gifts bought — the exchange deserves ten minutes of theatre. Gather everyone, gifts in a pile in the middle, and open one at a time, because a pile opened all at once is a riot and a pile opened in turns is a story. The recipient guesses their Santa before unwrapping (three guesses, escalating drama), the group applauds the gift rather than the budget, and the organiser — who has known everything for weeks — finally gets to enjoy the only surprise they are allowed: watching it work. Photograph the pile before and the faces during. Next year's draw will be arranged in the group chat before the plates are cleared, and that, more than any rule, is how you know the generator did its job.
Scattered teams and families run the whole tradition through this page: the organiser draws here, sends each match by private message with the budget and the posting deadline, and the gifts travel by post to arrive by a chosen "opening day", when the group meets on a call and unwraps together. Add one rule for distance draws — gifts must be letterbox-friendly or sent to a workplace — and one kindness: the organiser tracks parcels so nobody's December depends on a courier's mood. Geography, handled this way, changes the format of Secret Santa without touching its heart.
